Projects In India

I am currently working in India, sponsored by an eight-month fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council. Through these projects, I am trying to understand how diverse regional concepts of "place" may influence and be influenced by the country’s ever-accelerating globalization and metamorphosis.

INDRA'S CLOUD, Vrindavan

Working with the local N.G.O. Friends of Vrindavan and hosted by Sri Caitanya Prema Samsthana, I have created a mobile public sculpture which brings to life a local myth and draws attention to the severely polluted condition of the Yamuna River.

WEATHER SHIELD FOR MIGRANT DWELLING, Partapur

During the ten-day Sandarbh Artists Workshop on site-specific art, I created a protective covering for the house of a migrant family. Composed of the inner foil lining of plastic wrappers, this accessory reflects their immediate surroundings, and will continue to reflect any place which this family chooses to relocate.

WALKING IN THE CITY, Bangalore

While in residence at the Bangalore Artists Centre, I had a solo show in the gallery of Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath College of Fine Arts. This exhibition evoked the feel of moving through this rapidly changing city, the "Silicon Valley of India", where tradition and modernity are co-mingling in surprising ways.
