Test Drive

BANGALORE, INDIA. During this participatory performance, users travelled as a pedestrian-automobile, a driver-vehicle, a machine-body on a public street in Bangalore's Vijaynagar district. Moving at a greater speed than a pedestrian and a lesser speed than a car or motorcycle, they negotiated their own space and path within existing traffic patterns. More playful than functional, these journeys provided an opportunity for non-linear uses of city-space and reflected on the changes in city planning and infrastructure to accommodate the increase in private vehicles.

Produced with support from Bangalore Artists Center and the Asian Cultural Council.

Margot Cohen wrote about the piece in her article Art In the City for the Goethe Institut.
